Pea Ridge sits on US 90 between Pace and Milton, about five miles west of our shop. It is an unincorporated community, and the name comes from an actual ridge that appears on the USGS map of the area, which puts Pea Ridge on higher and better drained ground than riverfront Milton or bayside Bagdad.
Here is what makes Pea Ridge different from the newer subdivisions on either side of it. The 1970s is the single largest building decade in the community, accounting for 382 of its roughly 1,466 homes. The median home here was built in 1990, and only about seven percent of the housing stock has gone up since 2010. Pace, two miles west, has three times that share of new construction.
Put plainly, Pea Ridge is largely built out while everything around it is still going up. That makes this a repair and replacement community rather than a new construction one, and it means most of the work we do here happens inside an aging envelope.
A house built in 1974 was ducted for the equipment of 1974. Trunk lines are small, returns are undersized, and air handler closets are tight. Dropping a modern high-efficiency system into that duct system without addressing the return air is how homeowners end up with a new unit that still cannot keep the back bedroom comfortable, and with a compressor working harder than it should. We look at the duct system and the return path first, then talk about equipment.
Many of the older homes here have picked up an addition or an enclosed carport over the years. Those spaces were rarely added to the original load calculation, and they usually run hot in August and cold in January. Sometimes the answer is rebalancing what is already there. Sometimes it is a dedicated mini split for one room. Either way it starts with measuring, not guessing.

About 95 percent of occupied homes in Pea Ridge heat with electricity, which is the highest share of the three communities along this stretch of Highway 90. Milton runs closer to 88 percent and Pace to about 94 percent. Almost nobody here is on propane, fuel oil, or wood.
That makes heat pump reliability the whole ballgame in Pea Ridge. Defrost controls, reversing valves, and correctly sized auxiliary heat matter, and they matter most on the handful of cold days when the entire community is calling on electric heat at the same time. If your system struggled the last time a hard freeze came through, that is worth looking at before the next one.
Pea Ridge homeowners are more price-conscious than their neighbors on either side, and the census figures back that up. Median household income here is around $59,600, compared with roughly $80,700 in Pace, and the median home value is about $220,800 against Pace's $293,800.
We take that seriously. When a system can be repaired honestly, we say so. When it is past the point where another repair makes sense, we explain why and lay out the options rather than pushing the largest system we carry. That approach is the reason this business has lasted since 2000.
Pea Ridge sits a few miles from brackish water without being on it. Escambia Bay is roughly two and a half miles west, and the boat ramp at Floridatown is about two and a half miles from the ridge. The open Gulf is well to the south.
That middle position matters for equipment specification. Pea Ridge does not need the full coastal corrosion package that a Gulf Breeze or Navarre Beach installation calls for, but outdoor coils and cabinet fasteners here still degrade faster than they would well inland. Getting that call right in either direction saves the homeowner money.
